PhD Fellowships Position in the Field of Superconducting Quantum Circuits

PhD Fellowships Experimental and theoretical investigation of artificial superconducting two-level system has been developed as a field, rich in interesting in the context of quantum computing and cryptography. Far more interesting, like the design of artificial two-level quantum systems (also known as quantum bits) can be used to study the fundamental physics in fields ranging from quantum optics for solid-state physics in regimes not previously accessible. In this context we want to solve one of the major unresolved issues in solid-state physics: the microscopic origin of complex nature of critical High Temperature Superconductor (HTS). Despite various attempts to explain the true nature of superconductivity in these materials interesting, still remains one of the most "burn" topic in condensed matter physics. It is believed that the excitations which holds the secrets of nature. This PhD Fellowships project aims for a deeper understanding of quantum circuitries are made of high critical temperature superconductors (HTS) YBa2Cu3O7-x with potential applications ranging from quantum computing to study solid-state physics in regimes not previously accessible.

Postdoctoral researcher

The PhD Fellowships appointment will be for the period of one year, preferably commencing on 1 September 2011, with the possibility of a two-year extension. The gross full-time monthly salary will be in accordance with University regulations for academic personnel, and will range from €2,861 (scale 10) to a maximum of €4,374 (scale 11) based on a full-time contract.

PhD candidate

The PhD Fellowships appointment will be for the period of one year, preferably commencing on 1 September 2011. Extension of the contract to a maximum of four years is subject to satisfactory performance after the first year. The gross full-time monthly salary will be in accordance with the salary scales for PhD candidates at Dutch universities, i.e. ranging from €2,042 in the first year to €2,612 in the final year.

Secondary benefits at Dutch universities are attractive and include 8% holiday pay and an 8.3% end of year bonus.

Applicants applying for both academic admission and a VLIR-UOS scholarship need to consider both the admission requirements and the scholarship criteria.

Applicants whose proposals are deemed academically admissible will be notified by the host university.

The PhD position belongs to a subproject that deals with water isotope analyses on water inclusions in stalagmites. These measurements will be used for reconstructing drip water isotope variations and eventually those of paleo-precipitation. A comparison with parallel calcite isotopes shall improve our present understanding of interactions of drip water, calcite formation and fluid inclusions.

The appointee is responsible for improving the extraction prototype of fluid inclusions and isotope ratio measurements either by mass spectrometric or laser based techniques. There will be opportunities for visiting other institutions and attending meetings associated with the project.

Summary of the Programs

Candidates cannot apply directly to the agency they must be nominated by a University. Only candidates nominated by a University may submit an application to the provincial competition. Each Quebec University may submit the following number of files per category:

All doctoral sessions, funded or unfunded, completed before the scholarship takes effect are used in calculating the eligibility period.

V2 – Postdoctoral Fellowship: valued at $35,000 per year for one year non renewable. Postdoctoral fellowships are intended for new researchers who obtained their degree no more than two years before the deadline date for the competition or who submitted their dissertation by January 2010 at the latest, the deadline date for the beginning of the fellowship. Postdoctoral research must be conducted in an institution other than the one that granted the Doctorate.

V3 – Short-term research or professional development: valued at $3,000 a month for a period of up to four months. These scholarships are intended for technical and university students (Option A) or researchers who have completed a doctorate no more than five years before the deadline date for the competition (Option B).

The integration of field, laboratory, and simulation research will be used to inform decisions related to environmental remediation and long-term stewardship of terrestrial and aquatic systems.
The successful candidate will focus their research efforts on understanding the geochemical and microbiological processes that control Hg transformation at an industrially contaminated site on the Oak Ridge Reservation. The biogeochemical controls on transformations that sustain methyl mercury concentrations in this system are poorly understood. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with microbiologists studying the genetic determinants of Hg transformations. Opportunities exist to collaborate with skilled researchers in hydrology, geochemistry, environmental microbiology, and ecology within ORNL, at collaborating Universities and other National Laboratories.

Qualifications:
This position requires a Ph.D. in environmental chemistry, (bio)geochemistry, soil science, or a related discipline. Experience in Hg research, applying (bio)geochemical models, and the analysis of kinetic data is desired. Strong oral and written communication skills are required. The candidate must have the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment. • Achieved an IELTS SCORE OF 7.5 for Law, with speaking and listening no less than 7.0, and with reading and writing no leass than 7.5;
• Or have completed an iBT TOEFL test and achieved minimum results – an overall score of 95, with 23 for writing, 24 for speaking and 22 for reading and listening;
• Or a P-B TOEFL with an overall score of 580, with 45 in the Test of Spoken English and a Test of Written English of no less than 4.5.
Application Process and Time Scale
Applications open on Monday, 23 August 2010, and close on Friday, 15 October 2010. These scholarships will be for study in semester 2, 2011 or semester 1 2012.
If you meet all admission requirements and are selected to receive a tuition fee scholarship from The University of Western Australia (UWA), then you will receive an offer letter.
You must then apply to the CSC for your living allowance by the relevant closing date, including your offer from UWA with your application. Please check with your home University and CSC agents for the closing date of CSC applications from your area.
Successful applicants will normally be expected to start their PhD study program at UWA within 12 months of the scholarship being awarded.

Braintrack, far above the source of higher education, today announced two new programs for scholarships for two years: the Braintrack Business School Scholarship and the Braintrack Computer Science Degree scholarship. Designed to assist students in the course and to help others assess the business or computer science as a career offer these scholarships a place Braintrack $ 1,000, and first runner-up to $ 500 prize for the best essay on experiences of a novice as a student. The selection chosen based on creativity, attention and general considerations, precision, and the practical value of their answers to open questions. Braintrack Business School Scholarships

DAAD scholarships for Indian nationals

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), India offers annual scholarships to Indian nationals for research and teaching in universities and research institutes in Germany.

DAAD in New Delhi, the announcement of the DAAD program for the academic year 2010-2011.

Important information for all Applicants

Said Foundation/UCL Joint Scholarships

Each year, the Said Foundation and UCL offer up to six scholarships to study for a one-year Master's degree in any subject at UCL.

To apply for a Said Scholarship at UCL you must meet the following requirements:

be under forty years of age
be of Jordanian, Lebanese, Palestinian or Syrian nationality, normally resident in the Arab world and not hold any form of British residency
hold or expect to achieve a good first degree
provide evidence of proficiency in English
have at least two years' work experience
apply for admission at UCL (see Important Information above)
be prepared to sign a binding undertaking to return to their home country or a country of the Arab League for a set period following the funded studies in the UK

The scholarships are tenable for 12 months and cover tuition fees and provide a maintenance allowance.

Application Procedure

Applicants in the Middle East should contact the British Council offices in East Jerusalem, Amman, Beirut, Damascus or Gaza and submit their applications through one of these British Council offices by 31st January.

There is no restriction on the programmes that can be chosen for study. However, applicants will be expected to demonstrate how the Master's programme they chose will enable them to be of more use to their home country or the Middle East Region as a whole.
